Now with this entry, we have a contender for the goofiest (and most hilarious) defensive technique, the M. robustum. The M. robustum, when disturbed, (and a good fart sometimes is enough) flatten themselves out, spread their chelicerae, and comically try to kick with their thickened hind legs. At least they look pretty while they do it, with black femurs juxtaposed by the glorious red/orange legs, and as mentioned, the rear legs are thickened and have longer setae. They attain a pretty respectable 7″ legspan, and in addition to the wheel kick attack, they will bite, so don’t try to handle them. Keep them at 75-85 with humidity of 70% and allow them to burrow.
